what one do you prefer, and why?

i like voicechatting, i think you can learn more about people that way.

for example, what music you like, and your age. yes, you can do all that in text chatting but i think voicechatting is more realtime

well, voice chat is still nice for small groups, or one on ones, but i'm beginning, little by little not to like it for larger groups. 1, because it's getting harder ande harder to find friendly decent people to have a nice calm pleasant conversation with anymore, and if the people don't kinow you, they tend to ignore you. 2, only one voice can be heard at a time, while with text chat, there can be severalconversations going on at once, so if there are ten or more people in a room, and i find one or 2 people who I can talk to, we can just focus on our own conversation, and tune the others out, or at least i can. With voice chat, if certain individuals have the floor, and of course it isn't your room, you either have to leave, or just shut up and listen. Voice chat is good for efvents and things like that, but if you are in a room just for general chat, and there is about 10 or 13 or more people all crammed in to that one room, yuck! especially if you are on dial up and everyone else is on broadband. They'll take advantage of that fact and key up all over you every time, unless they're especially nice, and compassionate towards dial up users.

it's funny, I go through stages. I preferred text chat for the longest time but now I'm preferring voice chat more and more (but still only with those I know.)

It honestly depends what mood I'm in. I honestly like meeting people via text, but within the last year or so I've become more and more fond of voice chatting. It's easier to have a realtime conversation for one, and also brings groups together more.

right now i am in to text for some reason and I am trying to find places that are accessible without being geared to the blind. Maybe i will find something out there.

As far as the computer goes, I've always been into text chatting. It's just easier and quicker for me to express myself thru writing than thru talking. I don't go to any specific sites for that and just use the Instant Messengers, and although I also have Skype, I only really use it if a friend asks to voice chat.

I like text chatting better. It seems that I can right better then I talk. I do use voice chatting when finding out what the person sounds like or when someone requests it.

i personally don't have a choice in the matter being on dialup and all. i would love to voice chat with some of my close friends and maybe afew people on here, but until i get a faster connection, text will have to do...

I am most deffinatly a voice chat girl. I type allot, but when I actually want to get to know someone, or care to... I just get more from hearing a voice. I like both how ever, but only way to put me back on diall up would be a good cell phone plan and IRC.

irc is good for us dial uppers, but sometimes I think mesages might be slow getting to me if there are a lot of people talking on one channel. I guess I'd better get back on deepspace or somewhere for a while, before my typing speed goes down. I for one would love to see an all blind network on irc, but i don't think it'll ever happen.

I think as blind people we try too hard to stick together and we want to be seen as "normal" but don't want to put forth the effort of meeting sited people. That is why i am trying to get away from most of the "blindness related sites" and venture out so to speak.

hmm. My prefered kind of chat changes. If i'm embarrassed about saying something, I prefer to type it rather than say it, I don't know why. Also, when I don't want people to hear me, because my voice sounds odd/I have a cold etc, I like text chat. But if it's someone I know, and they know me, I'll voice chat with them.

I prefer text, but I have been finding voice chat more enjoyable now, too. Again, depends what mood I am in, and also I'm more than happy to voice chat if someone asks.

To Silver Cheetah, I too prefer text chat, because well, for one I don't like my voice. Especially if I have a cold.

yeah. my voice is embarrassing; I sound younger than I am and, yeah. :)

Again Silver Cheetah I too sound Younger.

LOL. maybe, though, to us we do but to others we don't. you know how you record something, and then you play it back and think "Ugh, my voice is horrible!"...that's what happens to me, all the time. That's why I like singing in a group unless I know the person i'm singing for. :)

Post 18 by lelia (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 21-Oct-2006 23:02:35

Silver Cheetah, your right, every one says my voice is fine. and I love to sing.

Post 19 by Phoenix (I'll do my homework...later.) on Saturday, 21-Oct-2006 23:04:45

everybody says I have a great voice--but it sounds like crap to me. :)
